Unsure if you need an autism assessment?
What is autism?
Social/communication differences:
- Some autistic individuals are more comfortable communicating differently. This can include finding eye contact tricky or preferring to get straight to the point in conversations
- Understanding sarcasm, jokes or hidden meanings can be a bit of a challenge because autistic individuals often think in a very literal way
- Making and keeping friendships can sometimes feel more complicated and require a lot of energy.

Interests/behaviours differences:
- Many autistic individuals have special interests. These interests can bring a lot of joy, comfort and deep knowledge.
- Stimming, or repetitive movements like hand flapping or rocking, can be a way to manage feelings like excitement or anxiety
- A love for routine and order is common. Unexpected changes can be really unsettling and stressful
- Sensory sensitivity can be a challenge for autistic individuals. Things like bright lights, loud noises, or certain textures can feel overwhelming and uncomfortable.
Where should I start?
What is the process?
1. Background - You'll provide your background info and details for your practitioner.
2. Intake - You'll meet your practitioner, and have an opportunity to ask questions and present your concerns.
3. Autism Assessment - You'll complete a series of standardised questions and tasks that evaluate your cognitive functions with the help of your practitioner.
4. Feedback - Your practitioner will discuss your results with you (it’s a jargon-free zone, we work hard to make sure it makes sense), clarify your concerns and talk with you about the next steps,
5. Report Writing - Your practitioner will write a report summarising the assessment findings, their diagnostic impression, and recommendations for next steps.
